I am greatly delighted to welcome you to the official website of Federal Government Girls College,Umuahia , Abia State. It is a co-educational unity college established in 1975 in line with the Federal Government’s noble intention to establish in each State of the Federation one co-educational as well as one girls secondary school. The college operates day and boarding system. It has an average class size of 45 students per class with staff strength of 275 comprising 153 teaching and 122 non-teaching staff. The college is a melting point for national unity as staff and students are from all the geo-political zones in Nigeria.

It has a serene learning environment with highly qualified staff to give the students the good education needed for a sound all-round development.

The broad goals of the college are to:

bring children of diverse ethnic backgrounds to live and learn together

prepare the individual for useful living within the society prepare young minds for higher education.

Admission into the college is through an entrance examination conducted by National Examination Council (NECO). Presently the college runs Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) programme with the restoration of Junior Secondary (JS) component in 2010/2011 session.

We are a great community here at school. To foster a true and cooperative community, the Old Students Association, Parents-Teachers Association collaborate with the college administration, staff and students of the college.
